Esta corta calle se ubica entre las calles Aramburu y Hospital en el popular barrio de Centro Habana y es una especie de santuario dedicado a las divinidades afrocubanas. Debe su nombre a Fernando Hamel, traficante de armas en su juventud, que se instal\u00f3 en esta calle y construy\u00f3 all\u00ed una fundici\u00f3n y viviendas para sus trabajadores. Pero la calle no fue destacada hasta que un artista ingenuo, Salvador Gonz\u00e1lez, comenz\u00f3 a pintar coloridos murales que representaban deidades africanas. Dio rienda suelta a su imaginaci\u00f3n y adem\u00e1s de los murales, cre\u00f3 esculturas y todo tipo de objetos coloreados, siempre con la idea de describir las diferentes tendencias de las religiones africanas. Se considera el primer mural al aire libre en la v\u00eda p\u00fablica dedicado a la cultura afrocubana.
\n Tambi\u00e9n se ha hecho popular por las actuaciones de los domingos de grupos que vienen a tocar m\u00fasica o hacer exhibiciones de rumba, una oportunidad \u00fanica para ver o bailar. Es un lugar lleno de color y vida.
\nIn the alley, tribute is paid to Afro-Cuban culture; some works are made from the remains of old bicycles or abandoned bathtubs, now gleaming after taking color.\u00a0In addition, there is a\u00a0Nganga\u00a0, a sacred place for the celebration of rites from the\u00a0Palo Monte\u00a0religion. The attraction of this alley lies in the colorful murals that adorn all its walls representing like no other the religious and cultural syncretism of the island.\u00a0The drawings reproduce different gods and\u00a0orishas\u00a0, spiritual symbols and animals, with poems or legends written on them, about life, love, dignity, etc. Its main goal is to bring creative art to the people, revitalizing a street forgotten by time and by the city, with an Art Gallery, where the neighborhood itself would be an indissoluble part of a unique creation of its kind, in the country and in the world, always within the reach of children, the elderly, workers and professionals.
